Expansion Survey
Your thoughts regarding the possible expansion of our campus will help us determine how we carry out our mission of Christ-centered senior care in Kalamazoo in the years to come. Please take a few moments to read the information below and then click here to take the survey.

Park Village Pines, the only Christian senior care provider in Kalamazoo, has three communities in which a wide range of assisted care is provided.  They are all expertly maintained and in good condition, and we are blessed that the demand for the care services that are provided in them has been strong.

Today however there are changes in the marketplace, both nationally and locally among our potential residents, which we must consider.  Increasingly, many seniors desire to live in their own home as long as possible and bypass the previously common steps of living in condominiums and/or independent living communities. When they do seek senior care, flexibility and the ability to remain in one place are becoming the guiding principles.

They only want to pay for the care they need “today”, including minimal care if they move into a community having the ability to live a fairly independent lifestyle. Optional services (such as flexible meal plans for those with low care needs) are important to them. They want larger spaces to live in and furnishings that are suitable to accommodate a lower-care lifestyle so they can host guests and prepare light meals. If care needs increase the larger living space is still a priority as it is “visitor friendly” and also allows care to be most easily administered. At those times personal space is also important if only one of two spouses has high care needs.

At Park Village Pines we refer to a community that meets these expectations as providing “Enhanced Assisted Living.”

Currently Park Village Pines cannot provide care that meets these new expectations as all of our buildings have single room accommodations. Specialized, high care is given in our newer buildings, Oakview Terrace and Crystal Woods. Our original building in which assisted living care is given is almost forty years old, and for both financial and structural reasons cannot be converted into a facility that could meet the changing dynamics of our marketplace.

In response to these changes we are exploring options for our twenty-five acre property just west of our campus.  Financial and architectural planning has begun to determine whether to expand our campus to meet the current and future demand for “enhanced assisted living” and lay a foundation for the process of renewing our original facility.

A New Enhanced Living Community
A new “enhanced assisted living” community (which could be separate and detached from our current facilities) on our west property could include

  • Buildings with spacious one or two bedroom apartments.
  • Separate living rooms and bedrooms, kitchenettes, handicap accessible bathrooms, and direct access to the outside such as provided by a patio door.
  • Spacious apartment accommodations both when care needs are minimal and when they increase.
  • Variable meal plans and the opportunity for residents to do some meal preparation if physical capabilities allow.
  • A wide range of care services as well as organized activities.

The price point would be higher than our current assisted living communities in which costs start at $3,100 per month.

Developing a new campus on our west property would be a critical step for the future of Park Village Pines.  We need your help at this important time.

This survey seeks your input on this concept.  Your feedback will help determine if and when this project would be done, the nature of the facilities, and what services might be provided.

Please take a moment to help us plan how to provide Christ-centered, compassionate care to more of Kalamazoo’s seniors.
